An experimental study on the effects of splenectomy on bone fracture healing

Bone fracture healing is a complex process involving multiple mechanisms where immune system has vital role. The spleen part of this and its effect on bone metabolism not completely understood. Herein, the effects simultaneous fractures splenectomy were evaluated regarding early late periods in rats. closed model was applied sixty-four healthy male Wistar-albino Rats randomly selected divided into four groups. carried out two period declared as three weeks five for evaluating rats,(Groups A: splenectomized 3rd week, Groups B: non-splenectomized C: 5th D: week). groups compared radiological, biomechanical, histopathological aspects at healing. callus/bone volume ratios C D lower than those A B (A–C, p ≤ 0.001; B–D, 0.001).
